Photos by Sacha de Boer of the exhibition ‘Samen 400 jaar!’ (400 Years Together!) offered to King Willem-Alexander
The University of Groningen is the second oldest university in the Netherlands still in existence today, and the only university in the North. The City and the North shape the University and vice versa. The University has contributed to the development and employment in the North for 400 years. Students make up a major portion of the city population, with many of them coming from abroad. This contributes to the city’s lively atmosphere and gives Groningen and its environs something unique, a special DNA with an extraordinary drawing power.
Sacha de Boer was commissioned by the University of Groningen to capture this DNA in photographs. The photos have been printed on banners decorating the city centre in festive fashion during the anniversary month. Sacha de Boer’s take on the Groningen DNA is entitled ‘Samen 400 jaar!’ (400 Years Together!). These photos are offered in a special edition of King William Alexander. The adoption of these pictures was the opening act of the festive anniversary month For Infinity.
The following movie about 400 years of history of the University of Groningen has shown during the opening ceremony in the auditorium.
